August 28 , 1963 photograph of local residents boarding buses as part of the NAACP caravan heading for Washington DC to take part in the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. " They gathered at the Hunton Branch of YMCA located at 814 Wood Street near Church Street . The march would go down in history as the event where Dr . Martin Luther King , Jr gave his famous "I Have a Dream " speech .
